Into a suburb of heaven [coffee toned van dyke print]

actually this was the "working paper" when I started to use a new batch of chemistry and paper, trying to determine the right amount of exposure, development blah... I painted a "level" of coffee over it and left it alone.

I did another one from the same negative, a gold toned platinum/palladium. don't have a scan of it, as it's sold. good for me, bad for you :)

original shot done on polaroid 664, scanned and transformed into a digital negative.

some observation regarding publisher and wannabe publisher

seems that there is a new disease amongst publishers, called "communication-paralysis"...
they get you on your nuts with requests for images until you scream and then, once you've sent the images,
you never hear from them again...
no response on email, no reaction, total ignorance, nothing... like dead!
very disappointing, really.

well, at least some "fuck you, no time" would be okay as well :))

The Poetic Muse

In Greek mythology, Muse referred to any one of the nine daughters of Mnemosyne and Zeus, each of whom presided over a different art or science. Muse in modern day terms refers to a guiding spirit or a source of inspiration.

The kind people at NUDE magazine have sent the latest issue to press and it will be available during the next days. I'm very pleased to announce that one of my muses, Candace Nirvana, is published in the summer/fall issue of Carrie Leigh's NUDE magazine, having a special "MUSE Feature".

She really deserves the designation of a poetic muse, as she adds the complementary to my ideas and visions, making them one of a kind visual poems.

As far as I am informed, the NUDE editors picked 3-4 pieces of my work with Candace, among many other outstanding images from her collaboration with other artists.

After a break that lasted almost two years, I'll be speaking again at a convention, so this event might be interesting for those who always wanted to know more about my photography, my style and workflow.

I’ll be giving an insight in the "artsy-fartsy world of VT" as well as presenting some “old fashioned” printing techniques. Also there will be presentations held by six other photographers, covering panorama, people/portrait, wedding, commercial/product and landscape/city photography.

An “all-in-one” event, so to speak, with outstanding photographers.

so here you go:

the "dry" part:
cam: plaubel profia 4x5
lens: symmar 210mm
negative: 4x5” fomapan 100 film

Development details on FilmDev

the "wet" part:
laborator 1200 enlarger with heiland splitgrade head
rodenstock 210mm/f8 lens
fomabrom classic paper
exp.-time 26 secs
dodge/burn center/sides ~10 secs

developed in agfa neutol
blue toned with rollei azur
bleached with thiocarbamide
berg copper toner

et voilà

There is a new feature on my website http://www.vernontrent.com that makes it readable for mobile devices, especially for iPhone/iTouch visitors, pretty fancy as well as giving access to the flash based albums. Flash is still an issue for Apple's mobile devices, but this is now very elgantly solved with no extra work from my side (which is really good).

Actually, the mobile version offers all the features that the "desktop" version has, such as blog, image galleries, contact and RSS. The interface is quite self-explanatory, give it a try if you have an IPhone/iTouch!

Below you can see some screenshots of the mobile version.

Frontpage Feature in "my nude" and New Collodion Work

The kind people at stern.de featured one of my images on the front page for their monthly e-paper, called "spotlight".

The March issue contains a special called "my nude" and it's published once per year (every March).

After a long journey, spanning 4 countries and 22 locations during a period of almost 12 months, my exhibition collection arrived safely back home with no damages or any losses.

30 images, matted and framed, each one 100cm on the long side.

It's really nice to have them back, but pretty soon they will be on the road again... this time more east :)

Over the past weeks and months I have got many emails from people asking a lot of things regarding my work and the way I shoot and compose my work.
It’s hard to explain, I’m just doing it and sometimes it takes some time until I get back to the shots and process them…

After the shooting I need distance, yet some space to clear my mind and “refill my batteries”. This stage can take a day or two or sometimes one or six months.

There is no recipe or rule for what I’m doing, it’s just me using my imagination like an abbrasive paper, grinding all the surfaces from the unnecessary until I get what I need…

What remains is the essence, dipped in lights and shadows.

Today’s image is featuring the wonderful model Sandy Krebs, taken with a Hasselblad 501/Sonnar 250mm on Rollei Universal 200 film, exposed for the shadows and developed for the highlights using Adox A+B developer. It was an experiment, as the Adox A+B & Rollei U200 combination is not documented. I’m quite happy with the results, especially with the grey tones.
